Very long but beautiful walk to the castle which is worthwhile for the spectacular views and romantic decay. I would recommend some annotation for the ignorant such as yours truly. This place could be worked up into a world class tourist stop.

assos is posssibly the most charming place in kefalonia. Fiskardo has become possibly overdeveloped. Assos has little room to grow as it is on the isthmus between the mainland and the castle's peninsula. The homes around the little port area are unique in charm in kefalonia. The cafes and restaurants around the main little square area are lively. The scenery here is one of a kind and the section between assos and myrtos beach is of incredible beauty and ruggedness.

A beautiful, peaceful town. Especially in the evening, it can get be a bit goldfishbowl like in the day, we had the most peaceful week here and it was not enough.Do be prepared for a good 40 minute climb to the castle though, water is essential, as is a car iof your staying here, it's a long climb up to the road where there is only an hourly bus service that finishes around three pm.

This was our favourite town on the island. So beautiful and peaceful. The walk up to the Venetian fortress may seem like a hard slog but you're rewarded with the most stunning views imaginable.
